Liu Yitong 

Liu Yitong was born in 1950 in Shishi, Fujian. He has worked under Lou Shibai, Ding Ding, Huang Diqi, Wei Jiangqiong, Wang Baisheng, Hong Weifa, Liu Zhengdian, Huang Dawei and other masters of Chinese painting. After studying his craft for 50 years, Yitong has become a master of Chinese ink painting in his own right.

Yitong is heavily influenced by his experience in the technique of wood cut, engraving and printmaking. This can be seen in the diverse expression of the ink throughout his artwork. Similarly, the colours of the pigments are more vibrant and innovative than traditionally used in Chinese ink painting, which tend to only take their pigments from nature.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Yitong's works took part in many national art exhibitions and he became a well-known artist among his peers. His work has featured in many publications including Records of Famous Chinese Artists, Archives of Chinese Contemporary Artists and Genealogy of Calligraphy and Painting in Eastern China in the 20th Century.

Liu Yitong has continued to explore his own path in art and the field of Chinese ink painting; in 2013, he was invited to participate in the Cannes Film Festival of France, and his self-founded Ink Phantom School of Chinese Ink Painting has captured the art world at home and abroad. The school allows for the traditional technique of Chinese ink painting to be passed on to the next generation.
